Optima Licenses – Term and Expiration Details
Application, Hardware, HELPdesk, Licenses, Services, Software
Optima products are covered by one or several licenses. This post tries to explain the different licenses used by Optima, their term and possible expiration dates.
Optima hardware product licenses do not have a set expiration date. If your company has purchased Optima hardware, then each product comes with a license for the embedded software (firmware etc). It is called the Optima Embedded Software License. This license will stay in effect as long as:
a) the licensee (customer) acts in accordance to the license terms, or
b) the license is terminated upon request by the licensee.
Optima Application Licenses do not have a set expiration date. If your company has licensed the use of an application, then it will be covered by the Optima Application Software License. This license applies to several product lines. From the apps loaded into T:LAN’s (like the ecoSENTRY app), to client side Windows applications (RCC), to server side applications (RCS) . The license will stay in effect as long as:
a) the licensee (customer) acts in accordance to the license terms, or
b) the license is terminated upon request by the licensee.
Some of our products are licensed based on a selection of desired features and/or the number of nodes which will be managed with the Optima product. One example is the Optima NMS. Once the license is obtained, the license will stay in effect as long as:
a) the licensee uses the product within the range of licensed nodes,
b) the licensee (customer) acts in accordance to the license terms, or
c) the license is terminated upon request by the licensee.
These are the only time-limited licenses offered by Optima. They are mostly intended for new customers who wish to evaluate our products. Or existing customers planning on upgrading their deployed Optima product lines. These time-limited licenses facilitate in-depth evaluations. They allow testing of our products while embedded in actual customer networks. The evaluation licenses are only valid for the agreed upon trial period. After this set period, the evaluation license will expire. The covered functions will cease to be fully functional. At this point the customer has several options:
a) Convert the evaluation license into a permanent one, or
b) request a trial period extension.
Evaluation licenses stay in effect as long as:
a) the trial period lasts (with or without extensions),
b) the licensee (customer) acts in accordance to the license terms, or
c) the license is terminated upon request by the licensee.
Optima provides these services on an annual subscription basis. Customers subscribing to these services gain access to:
a) our prime technical/support services, and
b) the most current software updates for each product line.
These service subscriptions must be renewed annually. Multi-year options are available.
As always, please let us know if you have any special licensing requirements. Contact Optima Sales on how we can tailor a custom made solution that fits all your needs.
